Dear Linda and family.... there are certain people God puts on this earth to shine His Love and Grace through . Your dad radiated that Love for everyone he met through his infectious smile and laughter. Sam was just that kind of person you wanted to be around . If you walked onto the court and saw him there you knew even if your play wasn’t so great it would be a fun time. I loved sitting next to him to wait my turn. His connection with Audra was so special to her. Thank you so much for sharing your dad with us all. It was apparent how much he loved you and you him. The courts just won’t feel the same without him. I will forever hear his voice and laugh as he called “ OUT!” Love and Hugs to you all....

The last time I remember speaking to Sam was during the Thanksgiving holidays. I asked him.... " If I was driving a little fast and you pulled me over but I was on my way to pickleball would you let me go?" Sam... " NOPE!" Chuckling on both sides a few minutes later he said, " OK.... I would" Now in thinking about it though I think he was a 'go by the book ' person in his life always doing the right thing and his first answer was true. It showed. From what I know he led a great life. He spoke of his late wife often like they were newlyweds and bragged of what a great Christian woman she was. His relationship with Linda only showed what a great father he was. He inspired me as I hope I can be 90 one day and watching an intense sport and then say, " I'm going for a walk" getting in his own exercise. I'm going to miss everything about him... don't let me forget to mention him handing me the snickers bar when I said I didn't need it. You don't know sometimes what an effect one has on you. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for his family during a tough time.

Dad, I will love you forever and always. I am so thankful for having you live with us for the last 2 years. Psalms 139:16 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Because I believe God’s word is true I know that you didn’t leave us one second before God had already determined that you were to go. I have faith that I will be reunited with you and Mom one of these days. You went everywhere with me, especially Pickleball and I am feeling lost and my heart is broken. Love, Your only daughter, Linda

Sherry My three brothers and myself lived with Uncle Sammy and Aunt Connie. We were Hank, Gary, Steve and Sherry. We are Uncle Sammy’s brother Eddie’s kids. We lived there for a few years and it was a great time. They treated us just like their own and they were our second mom and dad.

It was such a privilege to have known Sam the past few years. What a great example of joyful Christian man.

We are so very sorry for your loss, but it is Sam’s gain as we know he is with our Heavenly Father. We enjoyed seeing him come with that big smile on his face to the pickleball courts. He was always so pleasant and a joy to be around. So happy we got to know him and celebrate his birthday there also. He will be missed.

We are so very sorry for your loss, but it is Sam’s gain as we know he is with our heavenly father. His faith shone brightly. He had the most beautiful smile and was so happy to be at the pickleball courts where we first met him and then celebrated his birthday. So happy to have met this sweet man. He will be missed.

How thankful I am to know my grandpa that truly he followed the example of the Lord Jesus who came not to be served but to serve though He is King who reigns on high yet He humbled Himself and gave Himself to serve. And getting to know my grandpa I learned that He followed the Lord’s example in this because the love of Jesus touched his heart and transformed him as a person who set aside his own regard to bless others. And though his life in the temporary body has ended yet he is before the Lord in glory who is upon the throne forever joined with Him who we cannot yet see in our sinful flesh. Before the Lord bore upon Himself our sin He said that in His Father’s house are many mansions and that He goes to prepare a place for us and that wherever He is there we will be also and where He is we know the Way. Jesus Christ is the Way the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Him. I miss grandpa already yet soon, in Christ, we will be there with him before our God! Praise the Lord!

Sam was a wonderful presence to all who he encountered. We had the honor of meeting him at the Lakeside pickleball courts. We were always so excited when we learned that Sam accompanied his daughter, Linda, each time. He was a wonderful encourager to all. His love for people and his love for God shone from his very essence. One never doubted his love for life. He had the kindest demeanor with the most beautiful, contagious smile. Sam will be missed by so, so many, but he leaves the greatest legacy of love!

Dear Family, The FBC Umatilla family wants you to know that our prayers are with you all. Sam has touched many lives within this congregation and his legacy will live on through every hospital visit that we make. Sam loved making people smile just by his willingness to check in on them. I can only imagine what his heavenly reunion with Annie was like. We love y’all.
