Dickson Leon Griffin, Jr., 70, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas.

 

Dickson Leon Griffin, Jr. was born November 21, 1950, in San Angelo, Texas to Dickson Leon Griffin and Margaret Masters Griffin.  He grew up in Kilgore, Texas and attended Kilgore Junior College.  He earned his BS degree from Oklahoma State University School of Engineering in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he met his wife, Verlyn.  They married January 2, 1975 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage together.

 

Leon worked for the Noble Drilling Company for 10 years as an engineer before moving to Fort Worth in 1987 where he worked as a manager at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for almost 30 years.

 

Leon was a Boy Scout Leader in the Longhorn Council, Troop 326.  Some of his passions included traveling, fishing, welding and spending time with his family. He was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth.  Leon was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

 

Leon is survived by his loving wife, Verlyn Shoemate Griffin; his two sons, Dickson Leon Griffin, III and his wife, Molly and Aaron Taylor Griffin and his wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Elizabeth Griffin, Cooper Griffin, Allie Griffin and Hunter Griffin; two sisters, Susan Wilson and her husband, Weir; Mandy Griffin; brother, Earl Griffin and his wife, Vikki; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
